Friday is a Forecast First Alert day, especially for the evening and overnight hours. Heat and humidity will build through the day, with highs in the low 90s and heat indices climbing into the mid to upper 90s. If you’re working outside or spending time at the lake, be sure to take breaks and stay hydrated.
But it’s what comes after the heat that has our attention. Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late Friday and continue into the overnight hours — while many are sleeping. The primary threats are strong winds and hail, especially across northern and central Minnesota, where many head for the cabin. Overnight timing adds a layer of danger, so make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts that can wake you up if needed.
