JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Early rain showers moved in again across the Jacksonville area Friday morning, with The Weather Authority on alert for an aerial flood watch covering portions of St. Augustine and World Golf Village.
Repeated heavy showers in select neighborhoods have led to standing water, which may be enough to cause minor flooding in some spots.
The rain has been persistent, and with several days of precipitation already in the books, there’s growing concern about low-lying areas and their ability to handle more water.
Radar imagery from Exact Track 4D shows showers continuing to press inland from the Atlantic, with the heaviest activity identified in Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Nocatee, and near the coast in places like South Ponte Vedra Beach and Villano Beach.
While lightning was spotted earlier around World Golf Village, that threat has dissipated for now, though downpours remain moderate to heavy in areas.
St. Augustine is beginning to see clearing skies, but spots like Sampson, Blacks Ford, Florence, and Clarksville are likely still dealing with rain as storms track north and west.
If you’re heading out, keep in mind you might face localized standing water and potential travel slowdowns.
Heat, humidity control the pattern
While the feels-like temperatures won’t be as oppressive as previous days, humidity is still a factor.
Jacksonville’s air temperatures are trending in the upper 80s and low 90s, with humidity keeping the air feeling sticky but not topping 100 degrees as seen earlier this week.
Some areas—especially along the coastline—will get a brief break from the high humidity, but you’ll want to be prepared for sticky, muggy conditions again as storms roll through.
The current forecast calls for afternoon showers and storms to pop up, especially from 2 p.m. onward.
These pockets of rain can be unpredictable, so anyone outdoors should keep a poncho or umbrella handy.
The expectation is for additional rounds of rain Saturday and Sunday, with the most likely window for heavier showers and even some stormy weather moving in during the afternoons and evenings.
Looking ahead
The extended forecast from The Weather Authority shows continued unsettled weather.
Each day through Wednesday, highs are likely to build into the low to mid 90s, with lows in the mid-to-upper 70s.
Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected through the weekend and at least the first half of the upcoming week, with rainfall totals possibly adding up to four more inches in some communities.
There is no severe threat today, with general storms expected rather than damaging wind or tornadoes.
Event and activity forecasts
