Hurricane Katrina explored and retold in new documentary

New Orleans took the brunt of the 2005 storm which swept in from the Gulf of Mexico and killed more than 1,800 people, overwhelming the levees meant to prevent flooding in the low-lying city.

‘’This really was a failure of the structures and the institutions that are meant to keep people safe and protected,’’ said director Traci A. Curry, who spent a year and a half making five part series ‘’Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time.’’
