Christy, which stars Sydney Sweeney in the biopic of groundbreaking boxer Christy Martin, now has a trailer following the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
Black Bear, which co-produced the David Michôd-directed pic, is releasing it via its nascent distribution company. It hits theaters November 7.
Sweeney transforms to play Martin, a small-town West Virginian who became one of the first star female boxers by the late 1980s, soaring to global star status (she was the first in her sport to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated) under the guidance of her trainer-manager and eventual husband Jim (Ben Foster). The eventual world super welterweight champ and Boxing Hall of Famer’s toughest fights would come outside the ring, however, over family, identity, and a relationship with Jim that turns dangerous and life-threatening.
The pic also stars Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, Tony Cavalero and Gilbert Cruz. Michôd co-penned the script with Mirrah Foulkes based on a story by Katherine Fugate.

Christy‘s producers are Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Teddy Schwarzman, Brent Stiefel, Justin Lothrop, Michôd and Sweeney. Executive producers are Foulkes, John Friedberg, Michael Heimler, Harrison Huffman, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, Nick Shumaker and Brad Zimmerman.
The pic world premiered in the TIFF’s Special Presentations section last week, when Sweeney told Deadline about the regimen she undertook to play the boxing icon, gaining 30 pounds for the role.
“I absolutely loved it,” Sweeney said. “I truly felt Christy’s power as I transformed. And I really enjoyed being able to train and work with incredible boxing coaches and weight trainers and nutritionists that helped me get to the place that I was for Christy.”
