Former Seattle Seahawks star and Amazon Prime Video analyst Richard Sherman received a deferred prosecution in his DUI case on Tuesday, according to ESPN.
Sherman was granted the deferred prosecution by a King County District Court judge on Tuesday after his arrest in June following a DUI arrest in 2024. That means that his charge is now suspended, and will not move forward if terms of the agreement are met. As part of the deal, per Washington law, Sherman had to have stated that his conduct was the result of substance use disorder or a mental problem, and agree to two years of treatment.

The deferred prosecution also comes with a five-year probationary period, and will count as a prior offense if Sherman is charged in a future DUI case. If terms of the deal are not met, a bench trial will be used to determine guilt.
Sherman was arrested in February 2024 under suspicion of driving under the influence. He was reportedly going 79 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone and was spotted veering into other lanes when he was pulled over. Officers reportedly smelled intoxicants on his breath, but he refused to take a breath test and was later taken to the hospital for a blood draw.
He was then officially charged in June, and was facing a gross misdemeanor that could have resulted in up to a year of jail time.

The incident was the second Sherman has had since he retired. He was arrested in 2021 and charged with first-degree negligent driving and second-degree criminal trespass after he reportedly crashed his car at a construction site and then tried to break into his in-laws’ home. He pleaded guilty to both charges a year later.
Sherman joined Amazon’s NFL team in 2022 and currently works as an analyst on their “Thursday Night Football” broadcasts. He played in the league for 11 seasons, seven of which were with the Seahawks, and he won a Super Bowl with the franchise in 2013.
