Bucks guard AJ Green agrees to a 4-year, $45 million extension

At the start of training camp, AJ Green said he was not worried about signing a contract extension – or even getting it done before the regular season began. While the 26-year-old maintained he wouldn’t think much of it if negotiations carried into the year, he will no longer have to as his agency announced a four-year, $45 million extension on Oct. 16.

There are no options in the deal.Green’s agent, Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports, was a former director of scouting for the Milwaukee Bucks, and he and general manager Jon Horst have been in contact since Green became extension eligible in the summer. Bollero has been in Milwaukee this week, including attending the Bucks’ preseason game Oct. 14.

“My job is just to control everything I can right there on the court, in the gym – be a great teammate and work hard, go about the same stuff that I’ve tried to be about in my time here and trust that my agent, I love that dude, is going to take care of whatever needs to be taken care of,” Green said Sept. 30. “That’s what I hired him to do. And I trust him and the front office and Jon to come to a good place, Lord willing.”

Green signed in Milwaukee as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa in 2022 and initially was on a two-way deal before earning a fully guaranteed contract before the 2023 season. Last year under coach Doc Rivers, Green became a regular rotation member in playing 73 games and about 23 minutes per game.

He is in line for a larger role this season, as Rivers has said he hopes to start Green in a three-guard lineup for most games.

Green is a 42.1% career 3-point shooter and is coming off a career-best 42.7% season on 5.0 attempts per game.
