Michigan’s football program has its first in-state commit in the 2026 class.
The Wolverines flipped Saline three-star quarterback Tommy Carr from Miami (Ohio) on Sunday, giving them a second signal-caller this cycle. Carr, the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, had been verbally pledged to the RedHawks since February, but the Wolverines recently entered the mix for the 6-foot-3, 195-pounder with less than a month until early signing day.
With fellow Michigan quarterback commit Brady Smigiel, a four-star prospect from Newbury Park (Calif.), suffering a torn ACL this season, Carr gives Sherrone Moore’s program added depth in the class.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Carr is ranked as the No. 962 overall recruit and No. 49 quarterback in the country. He holds eight reported offers, with Rutgers and Iowa State joining Michigan as the other Power Four programs to offer.
Michigan also was a finalist for Carr’s brother, CJ Carr, in the 2024 cycle, but the top-100 prospect chose Notre Dame and is in his first season as the Irish’s starting quarterback.
With Tommy’s commitment, Michigan has landed at least one in-state recruit in the internet era (post-2000). This is also the second straight cycle Michigan has secured an in-state quarterback, with Belleville five-star Bryce Underwood signing in the 2025 class.
This season, Tommy led Saline to an 8-1 record in the regular season and two playoff wins before the Hornets lost to No. 1 Detroit Cass Tech 42-28 on Friday. He passed for 2,800 yards and 37 TDs to five interceptions and is a top-10 finalist for Michigan High School Football Player of the Year.
“Physically gifted signal-caller who exits high school football with an 18-5 record as a starter,” 247Sports national analyst Hudson Standish wrote in his scouting report. “Immense football pedigree is reflected on game tape. Operates with ideal timing and efficiency working through his progressions and will quickly find answers when pressured. Above average arm talent, but made strides throwing with velocity over the middle of the field as a senior. Will routinely rip seams and digs into tight windows.
“Functional athleticism and dynamic movement patterns translate from the hardwood. Crafty runner with plenty of short-area quickness who can make rushers whiff as he is extending plays or evading defenders in the open field. Best element of his game is making high degree of difficulty anticipatory touch throws look effortless. Seasoned back-shoulder thrower with no shortage of confidence challenging man coverage. Displayed positive flashes layering the football into zone coverage.”
Tommy is Michigan’s 26th verbal pledge in the class and the second prospect the Wolverines have flipped from Miami this month, joining Wilmette (Illi.) Loyola Academy three-star offensive lineman Tommy Fraumann.
