LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Every summer since 2005, Las Vegas has been the home of the Evolution Championship Series or EVO.
The Las Vegas Convention Center fills with fans from all over the world to see who will be crowned the best in the world for their respective game.
This year’s EVO features games like Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat and Tekken 8.
According to EVO, there were more than 9,000 sign-ups for the three-day tournament. When it comes to attendance, EVO says that is near 20,000 total over the weekend.
To be crowned EVO champion is like being named World Champion, according to Street Fighter veteran Justin Wong.
Wong, a former EVO champion himself, says the event keeps coming back to the valley because of everything the city represents. That could be the food options, the hotels and even the gambling.
FOX 5 spoke to the General Manager of EVO, Richard Thiher, who says planning an event like this is a year-round effort but has no plans to leave Las Vegas in the near future.
As for EVO itself, the event has gone global over the last few years. Earlier in 2025, the event was hosted in Japan.
In a few months, Paris, France will host the event. Thiher says there are plans for a Singapore event in 2026.
