Actor Satish Shah Passed Away At 74 in Mumbai Latest News


Actor Satish Shah Death News: Veteran actor Satish Shah passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday of kidney failure. Satish, who had undergone a kidney transplant some time back, fell ill on Saturday afternoon. He was rushed to Mumbai’s Hinduja hospital but was declared dead. His last rites will take place on Sunday afternoon at Pawan Hans cremation ground.

Satish Shah was best known for his comic roles in television shows like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Ye Jo Hai Zindagi. He was also appreciated for his comic roles in films like Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Na among many others. Sarabhai vs Sarabhai turned him into a household name and introduced him to a new generation altogether and he continued to get love for it until his last days, even though the show ended over a decade ago.

The hospital shared a statement on Satish Shah’s death, “Earlier today, the hospital received an emergency call regarding Mr. Shah’s health. An ambulance with a medical team was immediately sent to his residence, where he was found to be unresponsive. CPR was started in the ambulance itself and continued on arrival at P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre. Despite the best efforts of our medical team, Mr. Shah could not be revived.”

The note added, “He was a beloved artist whose remarkable contribution to Indian cinema and television will always be remembered. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and admirers during this difficult time.”

Bollywood celebs paid tribute to the late actor. Rajesh Kumar, who played Satish’s son Rosesh in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, told SCREEN, “This is the worst hour for me. I still cannot process that Satish ji is no more — all I can say is that it feels I have lost my father. A man full of life and humour. This is a big big loss to the industry and us; can’t talk much as not in the right frame of mind.”

His Main Hoon Na co-star Amrita Rao recalled memories from the set. “Satish Shah Sir always brought a smile to my face both on screen and off the screen. Ishq Vishk & Main Hoon Na were special because of his presence. His humour and vibrancy will always live in my memory,” she told SCREEN.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to Instagram to share a picture of the late actor. He also posted a video explaining the circumstances of Shah’s demise. He said in the video, “I would like to share a sad news with you. Our friend, a great actor, Satish Shah has passed away due to kidney failure, a while ago, he suddenly fell ill at home. He was taken to the Hinduja hospital, Shivaji Park. He has passed away. His body will be brought to his residence in Bandra. I will keep you informed about his funeral. It is a huge loss for our industry. I have worked a lot with Satish. Satish is a great man.”

He also penned a long note in the caption, writing, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja hospital where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.” The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) confirmed the news of Satish’s demise and wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “CINTAA expresses its condolences on the demise of Satish Shah ji (member since 1985).”

Veteran comedy actor Johny Lever also recalled his memories with Satish and shared how he had spoken to him just two days before his death. He wrote on X, “Feeling extremely sad to share that we’ve lost a great artist & my dearest friend of over 40 years. It’s hard to believe—I had spoken to him just two days ago. Satish Bhai, you will truly be missed. Your immense contribution to film and television will never be forgotten. 🙏🏽🕊️”

Satish is survived by his designer wife Madhu Shah. He was last seen in the reboot of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai in 2017.
