According to a report from Yahoo Finance, the investment moves by Berkshire Hathaway in 2025 indicate that Warren Buffett and his successor Greg Abel are concentrating on consumer-centered brands. This strategy persists despite broader economic uncertainties.
Throughout the year, the conglomerate’s investments have prioritized brands heavily exposed to the health and prospects of consumers. This focus comes as American shoppers have continued to spend, which has surprised some economists. Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan stated earlier this year that consumers were beginning to worry about their cash reserves but were continuing to spend nonetheless.
While other sectors like AI stocks attract attention, Buffett and Abel have sought investment opportunities elsewhere. Some of Berkshire’s largest 2025 investments are in brands that qualify as essential for U.S. shoppers or reflect their long-term goals. The company has notably increased its stake in homebuilder Lennar Corporation (LEN), energy giant Chevron, and beverage company Constellation Brands, while reducing exposure to financial institutions.
Berkshire’s most recent filings show it now holds approximately 7 million shares in Lennar Corporation, a 265% increase from its previous stake. Despite Lennar’s share price dropping 28% in the past year, the investment now constitutes a little over 3% of Berkshire’s portfolio. The total value of its holdings in Lennar’s class A and B stock is more than $886 million.
This investment in housing coincides with action from the White House aimed at stimulating the real estate market. President of the United States Donald Trump has lobbied for a lower base interest rate, claiming Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was “hurting the housing industry very badly.” Trump added, “People cant get a mortgage because of him.” Although Chair Powell did not lower the rate initially, the Federal Open Market Committee has since begun lowering interest rates and has signaled a willingness to reduce them further in the future.
