The Green Bay Packers are expected to release linebacker Isaiah Simmons, according to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports.
Simmons signed a one-year deal with the Packers in free agency this offseason after spending two years with the Giants.
Simmons spent much of his stint with New York on the bench and was looking to re-ignite his career in Green Bay.
Simmons was a the No. 8 overall pick of the Cardinals in 2020. Arizona eventually changed systems, leaving Simmons without a role, and the team declined his fifth-year option.
Shortly after, the Cardinals traded Simmons to the Giants in exchange for a 2024 seventh-round pick.
Simmons, who can play linebacker, safety or the nickel, spent two seasons with the Giants and wasn’t used much in his first year in Wink Martindale’s system.
His usage decreased under defensive coordinator Shane Bowen in 2024. He appeared in all 17 games but played just 17% of defensive snaps. He recorded 21 total tackles with two passes defended and a forced fumble.
Simmons also played 370 special teams snaps over the last two years with the Giants.
