Appalachian State is off to a 2–0 start behind strong quarterback play from AJ Swann, who has thrown for 662 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. Running back Rashod Dubinion adds balance with 305 rushing yards, and the Mountaineers’ defense has been especially tough against the run, allowing just 37.5 rushing yards per game through two weeks.

Southern Miss is 1–1 and looking to find more rhythm offensively. Quarterback Braylon Braxton has passed for 413 yards and five touchdowns, while running back Jeffery Pittman has added 87 yards on the ground. The defense has struggled at times, particularly against the run, and will be tested by Appalachian State’s balanced attack.
