Maine authorities say a man was shot and killed Friday afternoon on Route 302 in North Windham, and that a suspect was located after a shelter in place order had been issued.Officials would not confirm if the suspect was alive or dead, and did not share the names of the victim or the suspect.Windham police Chief Kevin Schofield said at about 1:55 p.m., his department received numerous 911 calls reporting the shooting, which happened at the intersection of Route 302 and Landing Road.Schofield said bystanders provided aid to the shooting victim, but he did not survive. Julia Hebert, who witnessed the shooting, said the victim was riding a motorcycle when they were shot twice at the intersection of Route 302 and Landing Road. Hebert said the shooter was in a vehicle that drove away from the scene.”I’m still really processing through it all. It was a pretty traumatic experience and my heart goes out to the victim’s family, and anyone else who was involved or affected by it,” Hebert said.Maine’s Total Coverage reporter Cate McCusker spotted a body in the middle of Route 302 in North Windham, near the Landing Road intersection, as well as a blue motorcycle. The roadway reopened to traffic shortly before 6:30 p.m.At about 4 p.m., the Windham Police Department and Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office ordered a shelter in place for Route 302 from Whites Bridge Road in Windham to Route 85 in Raymond, as well as for surrounding side streets.The shelter in place was lifted shortly after 7 p.m.An IPAWS message was sent to people in that area from the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency. The message reads as follows:”Gunman at large in North Windham. Shelter indoors, lock doors. Report suspicious behavior to 911. Last seen Windham/Raymond line. Stay inside. Tune to local news or Windham PD for updates.” According to Joyce, a deputy located the suspect’s vehicle at the Dunkin’ in Raymond, which is located along Route 302 at 1247 Roosevelt Trail.A mobile command center was set up in the parking lot of the Paris Farmers Union hardware store, which is located near the Dunkin’ where the suspect’s vehicle was found.Officials are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call state police at 207-624-7076.A helicopter and drones were deployed by law enforcement in an effort to find the suspect.
