Plane banner in Miami adds Tua Tagovailoa to list of Dolphins complaints

An airplane flew a banner over Hard Rock Stadium at the team’s home opener two weeks ago calling for head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier to be fired. On Monday night, not long before kickoff of a Week 4 game, a similar banner was spotted flying over the stadium with Tua Tagovailoa added to its list of complaints.

“HELP WANTED: NEW COACH, NEW GM, NEW QB,” read the banner, posted by reporter Adam Beasley.

The Dolphins are off to an 0-3 start to the season and there are no shortage of people calling for McDaniel and Grier to be fired. While Tagovailoa has struggled as well in 2025, replacing the quarterback won’t be as simple.

After the former top 10 draft pick signed a $212.4 million extension last year, he’s now under contract through the 2028 season. Cutting Tagovailoa in the 2026 offseason would mean exorbitant amounts of dead money. Only trading the quarterback would allow the Dolphins to offset the majority of the charges, but that would mean finding a partner willing to take on the contract.

Still, that doesn’t mean Tagovailoa’s seat in Miami isn’t warm after his rough start to the season. Other teams in similar circumstances — like the Denver Broncos parting with Russell Wilson — have been willing to eat copious amount of dead salary cap space in exchange for a fresh start.

The ill-will toward Tagovailoa, McDaniel, and Grier could change if the Dolphins turn things around in 2025. But after an 0-3 start, it’s no surprise that the plane banners over the stadium haven’t taken a positive turn.
