UPDATE: WEDNESDAY 10/1/2025 10:20 a.m.
(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to CSPD, as of 8:30 a.m., the right-hand lane of southbound Powers approaching Barnes will be closed for several hours, and drivers should expect delays.
CSPD stated that the plane had taken off from the Colorado Springs Airport early in the morning, though the intended flight path was not known. The pilot had reportedly told officers at the scene that the aircraft was having trouble maintaining any kind of lift. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the cause of the crash.

CSPD reported that CSFD crews were safely able to contain the fuel leak and keep it out of the storm drains, so there are no environmental concerns. The plane had come into contact with several power poles during the incident, and Colorado Springs Utilities responded to inspect the lines.

Just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) reported that they first received calls about a small airplane that had crashed and was leaking fluid just north of the intersection of North Powers Boulevard and Barnes Road. According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) X page, three people were on board the plane during the crash, but all walked away with no injuries.
Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) firefighters and CSPD are working on the scene to stop the leak from the plane, with crews working to clean up the wreckage. Both CSPD and CSFD stated that traffic in the area will be affected with lane closures for cleanup during morning rush hour, and to avoid the area if possible. Both departments urge drivers to be cautious and plan for lower speeds and different routes.
