Preview, Predictions, Where to Watch

Taylor Fritz begins his 2025 U.S. Open run this afternoon with a first-round match against Emilio Nava at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Fritz, last year’s runner-up, looks to make another deep run at Flushing Meadows and cap off a year in which he’s already made a Grand Slam semifinal.

Fritz arrives at this year’s Open fresh off two grass-court titles, winning in Stuttgart and Eastbourne. He now looks for a big hard-court win.

Nava, ranked around world No. 101, has turned heads this year with three Challenger titles and impressive performances in Masters 1000 draws, displaying grit and upward momentum.

The 23-year-old is making deeper tournament runs this year, reaching the fourth round at both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open this summer. It’s at the 2025 Cincinnati Open where he fell in the fourth round to his opponent this afternoon, Fritz.

Nava-Fritz Head-to-Head

Fritz leads their head-to-head 2–0, with straight-sets wins in Miami in 2023 and this month in Cincinnati.

Prediction

Fritz in straight sets. Nava’s rise and Challenger successes are notable, but Fritz’s proven Grand Slam pedigree and consistency make him the firm favorite. Expect Nava to challenge — but not overtake — the seasoned contender, much like their match in Cincinnati.
