Red Robin partners with local law enforcement and Special Olympics New York for fundraiser

VESTAL, N.Y. (WBNG) –On Wednesday night Red Robin wasn’t only serving burgers but smiles as well.

The restaurant partnered with multiple local law enforcement agencies and the Special Olympics of New York to raise money for Special Olympics.

Assistant General Manager of Red Robin in Vestal, Robin Torr told 12 News, even though the restaurant is a chain, they love to get involved with the community and create the environment of a local eatery.

“We find it is a great way to get involved with our community and to give back to our community. We give back 20% of all food sales to any nonprofit fundraiser,” said Torr.

Those who stopped by the restaurant for dinner on Wednesday could see local law enforcement and Special Olympics athletes acting as the servers for the night.

Brian Vandervort, an Investigator for The State University of New York police at Binghamton told 12 News, events like Wednesday’s help shine a light on what Special Olympics offers to the community.

“It brings light to the Special Olympics and all the great events and the purpose of what they’re doing for Special Olympics athletes in this area, and not just around New York State but around the country,” said Vandervort.

For Adeline Guzzi, a Special Olympics of New York athlete, the support from the community means everything. That’s because the support allows her and her friends to play the sports that they love.

“Special Olympics is extremely important it gives us the opportunity to make new friends, and just do the sports that we absolutely love,” said Guzzi.

Red Robin donated 20% of all proceeds from food sales to Special Olympics of New York and patrons could also donate extra funds to the organization if they desired.
