Savannah Bananas, ResFest, Taste of Africa, more


As this week’s high temperatures prepare to abate, this weekend presents some fun opportunities to enjoy Baltimore.

For the 20th year, the Reservoir Hill community will celebrate ResFest, the neighborhood’s annual resource fair and music festival.

There will also be events dedicated to house music, African cultures, plein air art, and more.

Toy Story, Thursday, July 31, movie starts at 8:30 p.m. (pre-movie activities at 7 p.m.), American Visionary Art Museum. Bring your friends (human or toy) to the final Flicks from the Hill event of the season: Pixar’s “Toy Story.” Before the movie showing, attendees can also participate in a free workshop to make their own “Toy Story” character trading card. Candlelight: Tribute to Lauryn Hill, Thursday, July 31, 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., The Collective Encore. Experience the music of Lauryn Hill as the Kennedy String Quartet performs under the gentle glow of candlelight.

Jeezy, Aug. 1, doors open at 7 p.m., event starts at 8 p.m., Lyric Baltimore. Hip-hop artist Young Jeezy will celebrate the 20th anniversary of his debut album, “Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101,” reimagined with a full symphony orchestra.

Savannah Bananas, Friday, Aug. 1, and Saturday, Aug. 2, Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Visiting from Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Bananas baseball team will bring their entertaining showmanship to Baltimore. Although the events at OPACY are sold out, you can still go bananas with a block party, pre-game, and other festivities.

20th Annual ResFest – Reservoir Hill Resource Fair & Music Festival, Saturday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., German Park. Celebrating its 20th year, ResFest will feature more than 50 resource and community vendors, live music from local favorites, school supply giveaways, food trucks, and more. House at the Harbor, Saturday, Aug. 2, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Inner Harbor Amphitheater. In this August edition of the Baltimore by Baltimore waterfront music and maker series, celebrate all things house music. Enjoy a lineup featuring DJ Wayne Davis; DJ Oji; DJ Thommy Davis; DJ Meesh; and DJ Biskit, who is also producing the event. Read more in this Baltimore Fishbowl article.

12th Annual Summer Plein Air Show: Opening Reception & Painting Demo, Saturday, Aug. 2, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Crystal Moll Gallery. Hosted by The Crystal Moll & Highlandtown Galleries, this family-friendly event will include a demo with award-winning artist Lynn Mehta, a Paint-Out, a Wet Paint Sale, and curated exhibitions in both galleries. Caleb Stine, Saturday, Aug. 2, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Star Bright Farm. Stop by Star Bright Farm for an evening of songs and stories with Baltimore’s own Caleb Stine.

Taste of Africa Dinner and Fundraiser, Saturday, Aug. 2, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures. Help raise funds for the museum while enjoying foods, music, and other cultural activities from various African cultures.

Baltimore Speed Dating for Singles Ages 48+, Sunday, Aug. 3, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Union Craft Brewery. Join Maryland Speed Dating for a casual, no-pressure way to connect with singles ages 48 and up.

Profs & Pints Baltimore: Popes and Papal Conclaves, Sunday, Aug. 3, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Guilford Hall Brewery. Vanessa Corcoran, medieval historian at Georgetown University and scholar of the history of Roman Catholic rituals and traditions, will take a look Pope Francis’ funeral and the secretive process for selecting his successor. Over drinks, she will discuss the history of the conclave, tracing its evolution, rituals, and intrigue.
