SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Imagine you’re seeing one of your favorite singers in concert, and they invite you up on stage to sing with them after seeing your homemade sign. Well, that’s what happened to Selinsgrove native Rachel Martin.
Martin was attending the Riley Green concert at the York State Fair on Sunday night with her friend. She has seen Riley Green a few times before.
“The other times he let girls sing a little line and everyone was like “oh Rachel, you should do that,” so I made a little sign just hoping he might see it and he wasn’t really looking at it. When it was time for that song he looked right at the sign and was like “we have another girl that wants to sing,” and he tested me and had me try it out and let me come up,” said Rachel Martin, Selinsgrove.
Martin says that when she was finally up on stage next to Riley Green, she zoned out. She says she sings at church, and that kicked in, and she really didn’t notice how many people there were in the audience.
Within 24 hours after the concert, her moment blew up as Green posted the clip on his TikTok. It got more than a million views.
“That’s crazy, I just thought it was going to blow over and just be a good memory, it still is,” said Martin.
As of Wednesday, Martin says the video now has almost two million views. She says having this moment was surreal.
“It was kind of not real to me. It feels like just a dream, something that didn’t actually happen,” said Martin.
Martin says after the video blew up on TikTok, friends and family started to reach out with excitement. Her mother, Amanda, says she ran into Rachel’s room and jumped on her when she found out. She says she never would have imagined this for her daughter.
“Millions, it’s crazy. I didn’t know it would blow up like this. I saw singing in her future, but didn’t imagine that there would be that many people that would see her,” said Amanda Martin, Selinsgrove.
Martin says that after having this special moment on stage, it pushes her to see where her talent can take her.
