New Florence + The Machine Music On The Way?

The Machine Music On The Way

Florence + the Machine are teasing new music on social media, including a spooky clip in which singer Florence Welch, clad in a red dress, digs a hole in a windy, desolate soundscape. She later emits three visceral screams, apparently upon seeing what’s inside.

Welch and company’s last new album, Dance Fever, came out in 2022. She recently posted clips showing her at work in the studio with IDLES guitarist Mark Bowen, who previously teamed with Welch to co-produce a cover of No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” fo the second season of the grunge era-set Showtime series Yellowjackets.

IDLES also remixed the Dance Fever song “Heaven Is Here,” with Welch enthusing at the time that they were “one of my favorite bands and I’ve been wanting to work on something together for a while. It might be strange for people to think but I see a lot of symbiosis in what we do in terms of live performance. Connection above all else. Joyful rage and togetherness.”

Florence + the Machine have been off the road for almost a year following the September 2024 performance of their 2009 debut, Lungs, with orchestra at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Welch was onstage in June at the U.K.’s Glastonbury Festival for a surprise performance with the Maccabees.
