On the eve of their final group-stage fixture at the Women’s World Cup, Sri Lanka’s top-order batter Harshitha Samarawickrama spoke confidently about the team’s mindset and readiness as they prepare to face Pakistan in what promises to be a decisive encounter.
Coming off a crucial victory against Bangladesh that boosted their campaign, Sri Lanka enters the match with momentum and belief. “We are well-prepared. We won our last match, the team is in a good mental state and ready for tomorrow’s game,” Samarawickrama stated at the pre-match press conference.

For Samarawickrama personally, this tournament has brought promising starts that she couldn’t quite convert into big scores. Reflecting on her performances, she said, “In all three matches, I got good starts but couldn’t convert them. It was mainly due to some shot selection issues depending on the situation. I’ve been working on that with the coaches and hope to play a bigger innings tomorrow.”
The venue has presented a mixed challenge for batters, with both spinners and seamers finding success especially with rain clouds looming over the stadium. Samarawickrama acknowledged the dual threat and emphasized adaptability.
“This pitch usually favors spinners, but we’ve seen pacers getting wickets too. There’s swing for the fast bowlers and good turn for spinners. We’ve studied the wicket and plan to adjust our game accordingly,” she noted.
When asked about her shot-making choices, especially her use of the sweep shot in this tournament, Samarawickrama explained it was a tactical decision based on match situations. “When the delivery suited the sweep, I played it without hesitation. I just tried to do what the situation demanded,” she said with composure.
